Online grammar check

Online grammar check services or software are very different than using real editors. The grammar check functionality that comes with Microsoft Word looks for very basic grammar and spelling mistakes. It mimics what an 8-year-old kid would check for. Grammar check software and technology is not very intelligent and cannot accurately understand context or the overall purpose of the content.

Grammar checking cannot be an automated process. Proper grammar is heavily based on the context, prose, style and other elements that the writer has in mind and wishes to portray. It’s impossible for a computer to accurately interpret these elements of writing.

To properly check your grammar and writing, a real person must edit your writing. A real editor can find mistakes with grammar in relation to the overall purpose of your message. They can also help suggest changes to your structure, flow, tone, and the way you portray your message. Real editors can suggest the use of words and phrases to get your ideas across more succinctly and powerfully. No computer program can do this.

Any time you select an online grammar check service, make sure they are using real editors to check your writing and not just some automated software algorithm. Real editors deliver real results. Automated systems deliver prefabricated results that are often completely incorrect.

Here’s a very simple example:

1. He came form the kitchen.
2. He came from the kitchen.

Automated grammar checkers will not find the mistake in the first sentence. A real editor, however, will.

Now, let’s say you’re writing a horror story. Let’s take the same example and see how a real editor would edit your writing.

Original: He came from the kitchen.
Revised: He entered quietly from the kitchen.

Though only a slight change, the revised sentence establishes a more descriptive visual for readers; a visualization that’s in step with the context – a fictional horror story.
